Simmel described blasé attitude as an intellectualized approach to life. He claimed that in an urban environment, we have to shield ourselves from stimuli and disruptions. In order to this, we must adapt what he calls a blasé attitude, which allows us to dull, or emotionally gray certain stimuli. It protects us from becoming too overwhelmed.
